Name the trigger and the decision owner
Define the conditions that would cause a return to the old path, such as a data error rate, a failed reconciliation or an unavailable integration. Name the person who can make the call and the time window in which the decision must happen.
Prove the return path
Confirm that the old system, data, credentials, scheduled jobs and integrations will still work after the new path has been live. Test the return trip on realistic data. A backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a recovery plan.
Reconcile data and communicate
Record what may have been written during the migration window and how it will be merged or replayed. Agree who tells customers, support and internal teams, and what they should say.
- Trigger, owner and decision deadline.
- Return steps with expected duration.
- Data reconciliation and ownership.
- Internal and customer communication.
- A post-return review with follow-up actions.
Rehearse the return journey with realistic data before the first production cutover.
